| IDD Therapy stands for Intervertebral Disc Decompression Therapy. This patented and FDA approved therapy is non-surgical, non-invasive and typically does not require the use of drugs. It has been shown to be effective in 86% of patients in clinical trials of 5,000 patients. Many physicians of different specialties, chiropractors and physical therapists in the United States can attest to the incredible success rate of IDD Therapy. The treatment is not only safe, painless and effective but also comfortable and relaxing. Most patients will fall asleep or listen to their favorite music during treatment.

How does IDD Therapy™ work?
After being fitted with a pelvic and chest harness, the patient steps into a flatform. The machine is then electrically adjusted to a horizontal position, causing the patient to lie on their back on a leather-padded table (fig. 3). The therapist enters into the high-speed computer the doctor's prescribed parameters and the patient is connected to the machine with a strap. When the machine is turned on, the patient will experience a firm but steady pulling on the lower extremities. This action allows movement of the targeted (diseased) discs 3-5 millimeters, creating a negative hydrostatic pressure within the disc. The "vacuum effect" of the negative hydrostatic pressure within the disc causes the disc to draw fluids, nutrients and oxygen causing the disc to be re-hydrated (rehabilitated) (fig. 4). Additionally, the same negative intradiscal pressure allows the herniated disc to be sucked back into the disc space releasing the pinching of the nerve and relieving the pain. A hydraulic weight pulling system in gradual 30 and 60 seconds alternating pull and release motion achieve disc rehabilitation..

Back Pain Conditions that can be treated with IDD or Vivatek therapy:
Herniated or bulging Disc (fig. 5)
Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD) (fig. 6)
Posterior Facet Syndrome
Sciatica
Failed Back Surgery
Acute and Chronic Pain of Uncertain Etiology
Failed back Surgery
Back Surgery is used as a last resort in patients with back pain. Many patients will not consider surgery because of the inherent risk and uncertainty of results. While significant number of patients get well following surgery, unfortunately significant numbers also have complications and many will be advised additional surgery. IDD and or Vivatek Therapy are excellent option before considering any additional
back procedure.
Contraindications
IDD Therapy is an inherently safe procedure that can be used without complications in a wide variety of problems. The contraindications includes pregnancy, metastatic bone cancer, bone tumors, fractures and progressive pathological or inflammatory process of the bone or muscles. A physician consultation is needed to evaluate patient’s suitability for this program.
